Devils History
WEST LAWN
DEVILS
The West Lawn Devils are formerly known as the West Lawn Hawks. The
Hawks were established in 2002 by Ed Schwartz and were then members
of the CMBA League. The Hawks finished that season with a 9-18 record.

In 2003, the Hawks struggled, going winless in their first 12 games before
recording a W in dramatic fashion.  After trailing 6-0 for most of the game,
Ed Schwartz drew the RBI-walk and go ahead run as the Hawks defeated
the defending Champion White Sox 9-8.

2004 brought some changes. The team name was changed from the
Hawks to the West Lawn Devils. The Devils' first game in the Stan Musial
League was facing off against the Evergreen Park Diamondbacks. The
Devils took a 5-2 lead only to lose in the bottom of the 7th on broken bat
RBI to drop their opener 6-5. The first win of the 2004 season came
against the Bartlett Cougars in a thrilling 11-10 win. The Devils finished the
season with a disappointing 3-17 record and a first round exit in the playoffs
against the Lugnuts 12-2.

It was then decided that the Devils and A's would combine both teams for
the 2005 season and then joined the South Side Wooden Bat League
(SSWBL), while also playing in the Stan Musial Wooden Bat League. The
2005 Devils finished in the Stan Musial Wooden Bat League with a 9-10
record. The first round playoffs came to a disappointing end, due to the
weather. Game dates were switched around from Saturday to Thursday
and the Devils were forced out. The Devils did make it to the Semi-Finals of
the playoffs off the SSWBL by beating the Red Sox 7-0 and then losing in
the second round to the Shamrocks. On the bright side, the Devils finished
over .500 for the first time in 4 seasons with a 24-22 record. Personal
accomplishments were also garnered in the 2005 Homerun Derby and
Fastest Man Competition - The Devils' own Billy Woods and Devin Smith
won those events respectively.

The 2006 season opened with the Devils against their rival team from the
last few years, the Diamondbacks. Both teams battled in past years for real
close games and this one was no different as both teams fought into extra
innings with a 1-1 tie, until the bottom of the 10th.  With a Devils baserunner
attempting to steal 3rd the Diamondbacks catcher threw the ball into left
field, allowing the runner to score and the go ahead run for the Devils 2-1
win in 9 innings. Brian Hockinson received the game winning RBI for the
devils first win of the season. The Devils would then finish the regular
season 15-9 and 3rd in the SSWBL. Then in the playoffs, winning the first
round against the Minooka Pirates 6-2, advancing to the semi-finals for the
second year in a row. In the second round the Devils were again facing the
Diamondbacks. A team match up that was played 6 times in the regular
season with the Diamondbacks winning the series 4-2.  However, it was
the Devils who would prevail in this game. With a 6-1 victory and advancing
to the 2006 SSWBL Championship for the first time in Team History.

With the Devils in the 2006 SSWBL Championship facing the Flyers, both
teamsfought hard, but the Flyers came up winners in this one. Winning the
first game in the best 2 out of 3 series 1-0. Then in the second game, with
the score being tied 1-1 most of the game. The Flyers squeezed out a run
in the 9th with a sac fly to win the 2006 SSWBL Championship 2-1. The
Devils finished with the best record of their 5 year span.
